Rangatira Investments (formerly Rangatira Ltd. ) is a New Zealand-based permanent capital investment company that takes long-term minority and majority equity positions in small to medium-sized private companies headquartered in New Zealand, complemented by holdings in publicly listed New Zealand and international equities, limited allocations to venture capital, and direct property investments. The firm targets investments with a minimum equity commitment of NZ$5 million across a broad range of sectors including agriculture, biotechnology, business services, chemicals, consumer products, financial services, food and beverage, healthcare, industrial, media, real assets, retail, and technology, with an objective of generating a sustainable total return of 10 to 12 percent per annum through a combination of cash yield and capital growth. Transaction types include direct private equity investments, growth capital financings, and listed equity purchases, with the firm pursuing both majority control and minority ownership positions without a fixed investment time horizon. Rangatira is structured as an investment trust with a permanent capital base and its shares trading on the Unlisted Securities Exchange (USX) under RANGA-A and RANGA-B, with 51 percent of its equity held by the JR McKenzie Trust and an additional 15 percent held by other community and charitable organizations. The firm manages a portfolio valued at approximately NZ$260 million to NZ$378 million in net assets, with a small team of investment executives focused exclusively on New Zealand private markets.
